Samsung selects Cypress' optical navigation sys for its Android phones

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has announced that Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. has selected the OvationONS II optical navigation system for its Android-based Intercept phones for the optical track pad modules inside the Intercept for easy and intuitive single-handed screen and menu navigation.

Cypress says its PSoC-based OvationONS II enables a fully-contained optical finger navigation module system that includes a laser, sensor and processor and employs Cypress's patented OptiCheck technology-a proprietary, speckle-based two-dimensional comb array technology-to determine finger motion and provide highly accurate and reliable user navigation interfaces for mobile devices.

"We're excited to see a world leader such as Samsung adopt our optical technology, which provides a superior solution for single-handed navigation in a phone" said Dinesh Ramanathan, executive vice president of Cypress's Data Communications Division. "We're confident that users will appreciate the difference in performance and ease-of-use the OvationONS II provides."
