USB pluggable DSP development kit from TI

Texas Instruments Incorporated has made availability of new credit-card-sized, low-cost TMDX5502EZDSP and TMDX5509EZDSP development tools for developers, hobbyists, researchers and students. The eZdsp development tools for C5502 and C5509A DSPs do not require any cables, allowing developers to simply plug the tool into the USB port of a laptop or workstation for hassle-free development and a simple out-of-the-box experience.

eZdsp USB development tools are ideal for applications such as voice, audio, musical instruments and accessories, medical monitoring and fingerprint biometrics.

C5502 and C5509A eZdsp USB development tools key features and benefits:

Energy-efficient C5502 and C5509A DSPs featuring C5509A at 0.96mW/MHz at 200 MHz and 1.6V core and the C5502 at 1mW/MHz at 300 MHz and 1.26V core
Allows developers to implement applications having low power, low cost signal processing requirements and evaluate DSP performance
Integrated XDS100v2 emulator ($70 to $500 value)
Eliminates the need to purchase a separate JTAG emulator to start development, lowering the upfront cost for DSP evaluation and making the tool more compact
Free, complete Code Composer Studio (CCS) integrated development environment (IDE) v4 software ($2,000 value), optimized DSP library, Image Library, Telecom Library (fax and voice), Chip Support Library and on-board audio codecs and connectors
Reduces development costs and allows quick and easy evaluation and development on the C5502 and C5509A DSPs for audio, voice, medical and other portable applications for faster time-to-market
microSD card slot (on the C5509A eZdsp USB development tool), 512 kB SPI flash and 1 MB SDRAM
Offers large data storage options and an option to store user program to SPI flash and boot from it to on-chip memory or SDRAM
USB 1.1 slave (on the C5509A eZdsp USB development tool), Ethernet, Bluetooth and ZigBee connectors
Enables evaluation of a range of connectivity options for developer's applications
Fingerprint biometric swipe sensor connector and extension connector
Allows quick development of fingerprint access control system and the ability to design add-on cards for access to other serial ports on the DSP
2.5'' x 4'' USB-powered form factor

Pricing and availability: The C5502 eZdsp development tool, which includes a range of integrated peripheral devices along with an XDS100v2 emulator, a complete version of the industry-leading CCS IDE v4 and access to chip support, optimized DSP, Image and Telecom library with source code, is available now at the low cost of USD $89. The C5509A eZdsp development tool is also available now at the low cost of $99 and includes a USB1.1 slave port and a microSD card slot in addition to the C5502 eZdsp USB development tool features.
