Stepper motor control circuit

Stepper Motors are normally controlled by sending a step signal and mix of logical signals to the stator winding of the motor. The logical signals and step signal can be generated by combinational logic circuit (not a good idea) or straight from a output port of a microcontroller. The most popular microcontroller for this purpose are Microchip's (www.microchip.com) PIC series of 8bit and 16bit microcontrollers. The PIC can be programmed to generated step signal as per some other input signal.

Refer this below link for example of circuit developed by using PIC16F84A

You can assemble stepper motor driver circuit either by using separate MOSFETS/Transistors and associated discrete devices or by using readymade ICs. Here we provide few ready sample circuits and internet links for you to use as ready reference design.

Single IC circuit:

Here below is a micro stepping driver using Allegro's A4983 chip. By replacing discrete circuit in the above example with this IC, it will be a perfect combination. For more details on this part or to select some other device please visit,

Circuit Diagram (Schematic Diagram)-2

C1 = C2 = 100 Micro Farads 10 Volts Electrolytic Capacitors.

R1 = R2 = R3 = 100 K ohms, 1/4 watt.

RS1 =RS2= (VREF) /(8) ITripMAX

ITripMAX = The maximum value of current limiting through the motor winding/coil

VREF = 4 volts
