Aricent acquires India based VLSI design services company SmartPlay

Date: 11/08/2015
India continue to be attractive destination for VLSI design services human-resources, due to the growing number of fresh VLSI design engineers coming out of colleges and also experienced talent working in multinational companies and India based semiconductor chip design services. For multinational companies to scale up their capability in chip design services, acquisition looks to be working out better than hiring and training fresh VLSI design engineers. There are two big acquisitions happened in last seven days. France based Altran acquired India based VLSI/semiconductor design services company SiCon Design Technologies (SiConTech). Today, Aricent, who is known more for wireless and communication related design services has acquired SmartPlay Technologies. Both SiCon Design and SmartPlay are fast growing semiconductor design service companies in India.

With the acquisition of SmartPlay, Aricent gains a staff strength of more than 1,200 who have expertise in semiconductor chip design and embedded software development. Aricent already has a staff strength of 10,000 in India.

In the semiconductor chip design services, India based design services companies Wipro and Mindtree have a stronghold. Happiest Minds, is also growing fast in this area. But now Aricent jump up in its semiconductor design services ranking closer or even maybe higher than the above said companies by buying Smartplay.
