Texas Instruments conducts the TI MCU design contest

Texas Instruments concluded the second edition of its MCU (Micro Controller Unit) Design Contest, which has run in three different phases where contestants developed products using any one of TI’s microcontrollers - MSP430, C2000, TIVA or the Hercules.

This year's contest saw over 1000 engineers submitting their initial proposals, among this eight teams and their ground-breaking projects were selected for the grand finale of this contest based on the creativity exhibited in creating an innovative design, ensuring the adoption of TI MCU Launchpads to develop their prototypes.

From a Speech Controlled Wheel Chair with a Robotic Arm which involves a speech recognition module, to a Pressure control system for Brace Treatment of Scoliosis, and then to a PLC and Wi-Fi Based Home Automation Solution; proficient engineers from across the country demonstrated their skills in presenting innovative solutions which can be replicated in a real-world scenario.

“This contest is about testing your imagination and innovation. The MCU Design Challenge encourages participants to disengage from their thoughts and build cutting-edge embedded systems using at least one TI microcontroller. Apart from demonstrating innovation & creativity, through this contest, TI provides a platform which helps engineers showcase their skills related to design optimization and real-time utility of applications, reflecting their overall technical merit,” said Praveen Ganapathy, Director, Texas Instruments India

Senior Project Managers, Swapnil Khandave and Aditya Pogade from Maven Systems won the First Prize for their unique Solar Power based Wireless Automated Irrigation System design. Maven Systems had also won the first ever TII MCU Design Contest in 2012 for their innovative ‘Wireless Security Hub.’

“Maven Systems technology products and solutions are aimed at solving the problems of the society. The Texas Instruments’ MCU Design Contest provided us a robust platform to shape up this vision through their valuable mentorship, impeccable support and the most advanced ICs to help deliver superior innovation to our customers in a cost effective manner. Winning this award for the second time from the global leader is a testimony to our world-class innovation and quality and gives us a huge fillip to contribute even more towards ‘Make in India’.”
