SunEdison completes the 2nd over-the-canal solar PV installation in India

Solar energy company SunEdison has installed a 1 MW solar power over the irrigation canal on the banks of the Krishna River in Karnataka, India. 1 megawatt DC canal top solar power plant built for Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Ltd.

Solar canal project smartly utilize the space over the canal, so that land cost is saved. Canal top solar systems also saves water by reducing water evaporation by preventing direct sun light hitting the flowing water.

SunEdison has done similar work in 2012 on the canals of Narmada river in Gujarat in 2012.

Canal top systems operate at cooler temperatures and so are more energy efficient.
