Sharp starts volume production of in-cell type touch displays for smart phones

Sharp started volume manufacturing of in-cell type touch displays for smartphones in June 2015. The advantages of in-cell type touch displays is they don't need another layer of touch over the display panel. The touch sensors circuitry is built inside the LCD itself. This results in thinner displays and lighter displays.

Sharp is manufacturing its in cell type Touch displays at its Mie Plant No. 3 by using LTPS (CG silicon) technology. Sharp said it also considering production at Kameyama Plant No. 2.

Sharp is in the process of developing larger size in-cell type touch displays for use in tablets and notebook computers. For medium-size displays Sharp views IGZO technology employed at Kameyama Plant No. 2.
