220 SUNY Polytechnic' semiconductor engineers are to be part of IBM research

Around 220 engineers and scientists working in the areas of advanced semiconductor and nanotech chip design at SUNY Polytechnic Albany Nanotech campus going to be part of IBM Research.

This move is part of IBM's $3 billion investment in semiconductor chip R&D over the next five years, where IBM is targeting emerging area such as cloud computing, Big Data, and cognitive computing systems.

IBM is focusing on non-silicon nanodevice research areas such as carbon nano tube (CNT), on chip photonics, quantum computing, graphene, and compound semiconductor materials, so that further integration of devices possible below 7 nanometers.
