Tata Elxsi demos RDK on ST's Cannes/STiH312 and Alicante/STiD12

TATA Elxsi has demonstrated the integration of its RDK deployment suite on STMicroelectronics’ set-top-box SoCs at IBC 2014.

The Reference Design Kit (RDK) is a pre-integrated software bundle that provides a common framework for powering customer-premises equipment (CPE) from TV service providers, including set-top boxes (STB), gateways, and converged devices. Supported by more than 160 licensees, RDK is being widely adopted by TV service providers, STB manufacturers, and SoC vendors across the globe.

Tata Elxsi ‘Prime’ is a scalable reference implementation for RDK roll-out that includes an advanced ready-to-use HTML5 Application Framework, RDK specific servers, and a set of HTML5 apps - and is aimed at enabling operators to reduce time and costs for RDK deployment.

Tata Elxsi works with ST on localization, porting, and system integration of RDK for ST’s Cannes/STiH312 and Alicante/STiD12 (DOCSIS) SoC devices. The cooperation aims to deliver a pre-integrated RDK platform and access to scalable solutions and implementation capability that can help customers deploy RDK rapidly, with reduced risks, cost, and time to market.

"Tata Elxsi’s software running on ST’s SoC devices provides a compelling solution for OEMs. By pre-integrating RDK and Digital Video Broadcasting with our systems-on-chips for advanced set-top boxes and gateways, we enable our customers to accelerate innovation and bring new products to market faster, worldwide," said Hervé Mathieu, Box and Gateways Business Line Director, Unified Platform Division, STMicroelectronics.

Commenting on this, M. Thangarajan, VP and Head-Broadcast Business Unit, TATA Elxsi said, “We are excited to showcase RDK deployment suite on STMicroelectronics’ SoC devices to operators and equipment vendors adopting RDK.”
