Global broadband CPE market grew by 2% to reach $2.4 B, as per Infonetics

Market research firm Infonetics Research finds the worldwide broadband CPE market totaled $2.4 billion in 1Q14, a 2% sequential increase.

“The strength in DOCSIS 3.0 CPE sales is incredible. What was once a North American phenomenon has now become global, pushing revenue up 11% sequentially in the first quarter of the year (1Q14). The transition to IP video and multiscreen is accretive to the ongoing DOCSIS 2.0 to 3.0 transition,” reports Jeff Heynen, principal analyst for broadband access and pay TV at Infonetics Research.

Other findings shared by Infonetics include:
Asia Pacific held onto the broadband CPE revenue share lead in 1Q14, owing to the continued growth of EPON and GPON FTTH CPE in China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore
In 1Q14, the top 4 vendors in the broadband CPE space are, in alphabetical order, Arris, Huawei, Technicolor, and ZTE
As a result of the growing importance of streaming video, 802.11ac WiFi will be increasingly available on broadband CPE
From 2013 to 2018, Infonetics expects fixed LTE CPE, cable CPE headless video gateways, and FTTH CPE 10G EPON bridge ONTs to have the highest CAGRs of any broadband CPE
Conversely, cable CPE DOCSIS 2.0 modems, broadband gateways, and EMTAs are forecast by Infonetics to have the lowest CAGRs through 2018
