Semiconductor device market: 6%+ growth forecasted for 2014

Semiconductor device industry is estimated to grow at 6.7% in 2014 with total sales revenue to reach US$ 336 Billion in 2014, according to market researcher Gartner.

In another forecast, US based Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has endorsed the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) Spring 2014 global semiconductor sales forecast, which projects the industry’s worldwide sales will reach $325.4 billion in 2014, a 6.5 percent increase from the 2013 sales total.

Smartphones remains main driver of semiconductor market in 2014 too. The PC market is getting further smaller in 2014. DRAM and analog are back in the fast growing segment.

For the recent month of May 2014, SIA finds the worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $26.86 billion in May 2014, 8.8 percent higher than the May 2013 total of $24.69 billion and 2.0 percent more than last month’s total of $26.34 billion. SIA reported sales in the Americas increased 10.6 percent year-over-year in May, growing at double digit from past 12 months.

Brian Toohey, president and CEO said: The global semiconductor market posted healthy growth throughout all regions in May, led by continued strength in the Americas.

SIA finds Year-over-year and month-over-month sales increased across all regions for the first time since August 2010. Sequential monthly sales were up 2.1 percent in Asia Pacific, 2.1 percent in Europe, 1.8 percent in the Americas, and 1.6 percent in Japan, as per SIA analysis.

In the month of April 2014 worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $26.34 billion for the month of April 2014, an increase of 11.5 percent from the April 2013 total of $23.62 billion and a slight uptick of 0.7 percent compared to last month’s total of $26.15 billion, as per SIA previous release.

If you looking for the figures in 1st quarter worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $78.47 billion during the first quarter of 2014, marking the industry’s highest-ever first quarter sales, as per SIA release in May.

WSTS predicted 3.3 percent growth globally for 2015 ($336.1 billion in total sales) and 4.3 percent growth for 2016 ($350.5 billion).
