India Electronics and Semiconductor Association appoints M. N. Vidyashankar as President

India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) has appointed of Mr. M. N. Vidyashankar, IAS as the new President . The earlier President PVG Menon has resigned in the month of March 2014.

Mr. Vidyashankar had served as Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Commerce & Industries and Principal Secretary, Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka. IESA said in it s release "He comes in with more than 30 years’ experience in management and administration of various government offices, autonomous bodies, boards and corporations and is serving on the board of various industry & academia committees, the major ones being AMSI, IIIT-B, and CEO of KIADB. He was also part of the core group for KIG2020. He brings in an excellent combination of Leadership, ESDM knowledge, execution skills, industry connects and an all-success history that will help widen IESA’s role in the ESDM landscape."

“IESA believes that India, with its potential to drive innovation, product development and manufacturing, can become the preferred destination for electronics and semiconductor companies across the globe. We are entering into a decisive era and every stakeholder in the Indian ESDM space needs to collaborate together to make this happen. We are happy to have M. N. Vidyashankar joining IESA and are confident that under his able leadership, IESA will accelerate the ESDM growth journey and achieve its vision of ‘Electronics can change India’.” said Ashok Chandak, Chairman, IESA.

While commenting on his new role, M.N. Vidyashankar said, "I am extremely pleased and privileged to have got this opportunity. IESA has carved a niche for itself today and we will as a team look at taking it to the next level. I look forward to drive a strong focus towards Government policy implementation, innovation, collaboration with other industry bodies, member connect initiatives, product creation, along with talent development thereby unlocking the full potential of the ESDM sector in India.”

Mr. Vidyashankar was recently adjudged as World’s Best Mentor by Technology Business Incubators, for his efforts in promoting technology and technology based solutions that transformed human lives and societies.

IESA represents wide range of electronics and semiconductor companies including Multinational companies having well established offices in India as well India based companies. If we look at the membership of IESA , the share of MNC owned Indian companies and India based companies membership, its like an approximate 50:50.

IESA is playing active role in bridging different stake holders of electronics and semiconductor business such as corporates, Government and Academia. The role of major electronics industry bodies such IESA, ELCINA, and MAIT is only increasing due to the fast growing demand for electronics hardware in India. There is a need for these bodies to work under one umbrella to support the needs of India's market as well as local businesses.
