Indian Robot developer is finalist of 2013 Georges Giralt PhD award

Robot researcher Mr. Amit Kumar Pandey from Laboratoire d’Analyse et d’Architecture des Systèmes (LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse) is selected as one of three finalists for the Georges Giralt PhD award given to top researcher of robots.

Amit has researched on the subject of “Towards Socially Intelligent Robots In the Human-Centered Environment” as part of his PhD thesis. He had earlier completed MS spcialized in robotics for IIIT, Hyderabad.

Amit’s research interest includes human-robot interaction. He said in his blog ““Human and Robot should coexist in complete harmony.” His thesis explores various socio- cognitive aspects ranging from perspective-taking, social navigation behaviors, cooperative planning, proactive behaviors to learning task semantics from demonstration.

The final award is going to be presented at the next European Robotics Forum on March 20, 2013 in Lyon. Issued by EURON, European Robotics Research Network. This award is named Georges Giralt, co-founder of LAAS and roboticist in recognition of his efforts to set up and stimulate a European community in robotics.
