Murata's electric double layer capacitors achieve service life of 5 years at 70 Deg C

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has announced that the mass production of the DMG series of electric double-layer capacitors would start from June 2012. The DMG series is planned mainly for SSD backup applications, and features low resistance and long-term reliability at high temperatures, in a thin package.

Murata introduced technology developed by CAP-XX, an Australian firm and Murata business partner as of 2008, and commenced mass production of the DME and DMD series of electric double-layer capacitors from December 2010.

The DMG series suppresses the degradation of characteristics under high temperatures by optimizing the electrolyte and other materials. This realized the desired heat resistance that had not been possible thus far, and achieved an expected service life of 5 years at 70°C.

Features:
a. Low ESR of 70 milliohm to 130 milliohm enables high-current, high-output charging and discharging
b. Operating temperature range: -30°C to +85°C
c. Long-term reliability of 5 years at 70°C

Applications:
a. SSD backup
b. Smart meters
c. Power supply backup for communication systems
d. Other power supply system backup
e. Energy harvesting
