Mobile PC shipments is forecasted to increase 27% Y/Y, to 276.9 million units

DisplaySearch has reported mobile PC shipments (including notebook, mini-note and tablet PCs) are expected to grow at double-digit rates through 2017, at which time shipments will reach nearly 800 million units, up from 277 million in 2011.

The finding shared by DisplaySearch include:
The main assumptions behind the latest forecast are that as PC penetration rates rise in emerging markets, first time buyers are going to look to notebooks for the performance.
At the same time, the convenience of tablet PCs with their instant-on, long battery life and portable form factors will be a welcome platform for existing PC owners. Worldwide shipments of tablet PCs are forecast to reach 367 million units by 2017, which would be 46% of the mobile PC shipments.

The latest Quarterly Mobile PC Shipment and Forecast Report projects 2011 mobile PC shipments to increase 27% Y/Y, to 276.9 million units. Notebook PC Y/Y shipment growth is forecast to be 13%, reaching 188 million units in 2011. Tablet PC shipments are forecast to grow 213% Y/Y, to 64 million units.
