weaken by 0.5%, SIA
Worldwide semiconductor sales slipped by 0.5 percent from
$25 billion a year ago, the Semiconductor Industry Association
(SIA) reported that worldwide sales of semiconductors is
$24.7 billion for the month of June 2011. The sales in the
second quarter were down by 2 percent compared to the previous
quarter and also the Asia Pacific sales is slipped by 1.5%
from $13.93 in May 2011 to $13.41 in June, reports SIA.
"Despite this month's modest contraction in sales,
the industry saw a 3.7 percent increase in the first half
of 2011 sales compared to the same period last year which
saw record breaking growth," said Brian Toohey, President,
Semiconductor Industry Association. "Overall semiconductor
sales are on track with growth projections of 5.4 percent
growth for 2011", he adds.
The Key factors the association is focusing on includes
a corporate PC refresh cycle, smartphone demand, and overall
increase in semiconductor content in the growing sector
like automotive, balancing slower consumer sales and a quick
recovery of the Japan disaster.
On the other hand, MarketResearch.com announced that the
semiconductor market is likely to reach $300 billion by
2013.
