Cypress sharpens focus on PSOC and gets away from PC clock business by selling it to Spectra Linear.
Cypress is focusing more on microcontroller based SOCs,
otherwise called Programmable System on Chips (PSOC). In this
direction, Cypress has released reference design to develop finger
print secured access to external hard disk drives connecting to a
PC. By using UPEK’S touch strip finger print high security authentication, cypress has developed a reference design using their EZ-USB FX2LP USB microcontroller to read/write data into external hard disks. The fingerprint will be stored in the hard disk rather than a PC. So that hard disk will be portable and independent of PC. Its plug and play solution gets rid of PC software installation headaches. The reference design called CY4661 is free and comes with UPEK’S popular protector suite token application software which includes password bank to access some password protected websites and applications. UPEK also provides tutorial with video training and practice session.
Cypress is also planed to slowly get out some
businesses. Spectra linear, timing solutions company for PC and consumer market has acquired cypress semiconductor’s PC clock business. However cypress continues to support general-purpose clock business. The product’s to fall into spectra linear basket are frequency timing generators (clocks, buffers), for application in PC, notebook, IA appliances and handheld applications,
Part No.s such as CY2210, CY2254A, CY2277A, CY2280, CY28317, etc
are in this group. |
