Indian Telecom market: ITI and Intel right match for growth of wireless broadband n/ws

There are media reports saying Intel, Huawei, Samsung, Alcatel-Lucent, and Hitachi are bidding for Indian Telephone Industries (ITI)'s invitation to partner with it to form a joint venture for technologies such as WiMAX.

The growing communications market of India will soon witness sudden erupt of demand for wireless broadband networks. Government in its effort to provide telecom networks both in rural and urban area is pushing every technology, which includes both 3G and WiMAX.

Telecom experts in India might see this as an opportunity to bring growth back to the loss ridden ITI. Once ITI was synonymous with the word 'telecommunications'. Over the period, it nearly lost most of its abilities to compete with world's leading telecom companies.

However by looking into the availability of huge domestic market, ITI can attempt to bounce back by partnering with right company.

Even though not updated with latest technology trends, ITI has enough foundation in telecom domain to further its expertise, what it really needs is a semiconductor chip partner like Intel to complement ITI's capabilities. ITI can gear up to design, and develop software for ordinary routers to 3G wireless networks with the technology support of Intel. What it needs is bit of manufacturing support and Semiconductor partner who can source SoC class chips exclusively for the Indian market.

Huawei can be nearly ruled out for not having any significant complementing capabilities except low cost manufacturing support from China, even in manufacturing, India is scaling up.

Alcatel and Lucent are excellent partners but lack complementing strengths.

If not Intel, Samsung can be potential partner provided if it has enough IP in WiMAX and 3G. Even otherwise Samsung is more of a follower than an inventor in the telecom space.

Intel and ITI have the potential of beating Microsoft-Intel partnership, if not in PC OS, but in new convergence market because Indian market is going to be so big. Even among semiconductor vendors there is no other better partner for ITI than Intel.

Intel-ITI; The name also sounds good.
