The impact of earthquake on TSMC's fabs

TSMC said the recent earthquake of magnitude 6.4 measured on the Richter scale had minimal impact on its Hsinchu fabs but greater impact on its Tainan fabs. TSMC estimated that the earthquake has caused the equivalent of 1.5 days loss of wafer movement for the company in total.

LCD glass producing company Corning has reported its production is not impacted by the earthquake in its Taiwan plant.

The other semiconductor and LCD fabs in Taiwan also reported no major impact, neither financial nor production, except few days of production loss. Over the time, Taiwan semiconductor chip industry has learned and more prepared to weather effects of earthquake.
