Gartner estimates global semiconductor
revenue to grow by 20% in 2010
As per the latest study by the market research firm Gartner,
the total global semiconductor market based on revenue is
estimated to reach $276 billion in 2010, a growth of 20%
compared to $231 billion in 2009. Bryan Lewis, research
vice president at Gartner says, they have seen a clear evidence
of demand.
Year 2009 enters into the history book has one of the bad
year for semiconductor industry where revenues fell by 9%.
But in year 2009 itself the growth has started mainly due
to demand in portable computers (netbooks and notebooks).
Year 2010 will see more demand for portable computers including
newly released Apple iPad kind of tablet PCs. The smartphone
market will also grow in 2010.
The total food chain of semiconductor industry is growing,
which includes semiconductor equipment, fab revenues, chips
sales and finally the end products such as electronic equipments
and devices.
Though growth is for sure, the demand can be estimated
not to be steady; it will have temporary falls and spikes.
The chip segments such as DRAM, processors, 32-bit MCU,
flash memory will lead the growth at a growth rate exceeding
20%. Application market-wise, automotive and computer segments
are forecasted to grow greater than 20%.
