Over 20 Million Instaport-enabled port
processors shipment from Silicon Image
Silicon Image has announced that it has shipped over 20
million InstaPort-enabled port processors into digital television
(DTV) models from manufacturers including Samsung, Sharp
and Toshiba.
The InstaPort technology, featured in over 125 DTV models
is integrated in Silicon Image's SiI9287, SiI9387 and SiI9389
port processors. InstaPort technology enhances consumers'
HD experience by eliminating the four to seven second delay
when switching between HDMI-enabled devices connected to
the DTV.
In today's connected home, there is a wide range of HDMI-compatible
source devices including DVD and Blu-ray Disc players, set-top
boxes (STBs), laptops, mobile devices and game consoles.
These devices are connected to DTVs via HDMI ports, but
instead of a seamless user experience, there is a four to
seven second wait time when switching between devices.
"Switching delays with previous generation HDMI solutions
has been one of the sore spots for the CE industry,"
said Randy Lawson, senior analyst of display electronics
at market research firm iSuppli. "According to iSuppli's
latest HDMI technology forecast, the market for HDMI-enabled
consumer electronics devices capable of sourcing or displaying
high-definition content is expected to grow by over 250
percent from 2009 to 2013. This is based on continued demand
for HDTVs and a growing stable of HD-capable source devices.
Addressing the issues with source-switching time between
the now ubiquitous HDMI flat panel displays and the growing
list of HDMI-enabled sources is clearly a value-add for
CE OEMs."
"Shipping over 20 million InstaPort-enabled port
processors within a year highlights the success of the technology
and the value it brings to the consumer, experiencing HD
without delay," said Waheed Rasheed, director of product
marketing at Silicon Image, Inc. "Top-tier DTV manufacturers
have recognized InstaPort as a must-have feature and are
incorporating the technology into their 2010 models."
