12 design wins for Continuous Computing's
DPI tech from network equipment providers
Continuous Computing has announced that it has secured
12 Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) design wins with network
equipment providers and estimates that its DPI technology
is being used in more than 10 Tier One mobile operator networks
globally.
"The economics of today's mobile broadband business
model has the potential to cripple wireless operators. Due
to flat-rate data plans, wireless usage is increasing significantly
faster than revenues, leaving carriers struggling to balance
profitability with required network capacity expansion,"
said Manish Singh, Continuous Computing's vice president
of product line management. "In an environment where
wireless traffic is doubling every nine months and network
capacity is inherently limited by spectrum, the anticipated
gains from WiMAX and Long Term Evolution (LTE) will not
be enough to resolve the bandwidth challenges on their own.
As such, mobile operators are using DPI traffic management
to make their existing bandwidth pipes work smarter and
ensure sufficient quality of service for all subscribers."
DPI technology enables operators to analyze congestion
in their mobile networks and employ traffic prioritization
and internet offload for sensitive applications such as
voice and streaming media.
DPI technology manages growing mobile broadband usage and
provides increased network security.
DPI also allows carriers to detect and isolate the growing
number of viruses introduced either unwittingly or by design
via wirelessly connected netbooks and laptops, also supporting
legal requirements for lawful intercept.
