LG Electronics implements Rayspan's metamaterial antenna in its mobile phones

LG Electronics is the first handset manufacturer to implement Rayspan's metamaterial antenna. Compared to conventional antennas and RF components, metamaterial-structured ones have electromagnetic propagation properties that enable ultra-small, multi-band cellular handsets, Wi-Fi routers and modems with improved speed, range and reliability.

The key features of Rayspan's antenna are,

Ultra-compact size, on the order of 1/10 of the wavelength of the operating frequency. Conventional antennas are typically half of the wavelength, or five times larger.
Single-antenna support of four to six frequency bands with multiple feeds that eliminate the need for splitter-diplexers.

Rayspan's technology supports fixed and mobile wireless WAN and LAN applications including all 2/3/4G cellular handsets, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and LTE
