IMS Research rates Infineon as top dscrete power semiconductor vendor

In recent power semiconductor (discrete and module) market analysis study by IMS Research, Infineon, ST Microelectronics and Fairchild are ranked as top 3 suppliers of power semicoductor devices (discretes and modules) in the year 2007. Infineon has retained its top position for consecutive 5th year with a 9.7% market share in the total revenue of 13.6 billion USD. Infineon has grown this business by 20% compared to 2006.
The power semiconductor market has grown by just under 10% from year 2006 to 2007. The technology trend is towards achieving power effeciency, and reducing size.

The key driving factor of power semiconductor market are,

Requirement of highly energy efficient devices
New illumination technologies such as LED lighting which require power smiconductor devices
Power saving automotiive technlogies such as hybrid cars and any such green - technologies
Continous demand from portalbe consumer devices for smaller size devices with increased performance.

The other major discrete power semiconductor vendors are,
International Rectifier (www.ir.com)
Vishay (www.vishay.com)
Renesas (www.renesas.com)
Microsemi (www.microsemi.com)
IXYS Corp (www.ixys.com)
NXP (www.nxp.com)
Toshiba (www.toshiba.com/taec/)

All these vendors focus more on MOSFETs, IGBTs, and Schottky Diodes
