Fresco are Entropic are partnering to develop hybrid receivers for modern TVs

Fresco Microchip and Entropic Communications are partnering to develop low cost silicon-based hybrid receivers for televisions.
The joint effort is aimed at offering quality tuning and demodulation inside small sized module/device. Fresco's FM1150 audio/video demodulator Entropic's EN4020 multi-mode silicon tuner forms the pair.

"Our customers include many of the largest tier one television module manufacturers in the world," said Mike Gittings, VP of marketing and sales at Fresco Microchip. "The collaboration between Fresco and Entropic will deliver custom reference designs as requested by our customers. By combining the superior performance of Fresco's FM1150 analog demodulator with Entropic's EN4020 silicon tuner, we are delivering a highly integrated solution that offers significant system cost savings and eliminates the traditional tradeoffs associated with discrete tuner and analog demodulator implementations."

"The FM1150 and EN4020 complement one another well and address the needs of the hybrid television market. As we enter this partnership, we look forward to working together with Fresco to engage with multiple customers by delivering significant solution cost savings to next-generation television designs," said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice- president marketing and business development for Entropic.

Fresco has also received a funding of $10 Million from Celtic House Venture Partners and Ventures West.

Fresco claims, Six of the top nine tuner manufacturers are actively using Fresco's consumer ICs in products such as Television, DVD-R, PVR, and set-top box.

"We are excited by the strong customer pull for Fresco's products and the expansion of the company's product portfolio to address new opportunities," said Brian Antonen, partner of Celtic House. "Fresco's success confirms our long-term investment strategy of building a cluster of world-leading companies focused on consumer video. We are delighted to fund the company as they embark on the next phase of growth."

"Fresco Microchip sets a new benchmark for successful venture-backed companies," said Ted Anderson, managing general partner of Ventures West. "Fresco's strong value proposition in a well-established, multibillion dollar high growth market aligns closely with our investment focus on winning companies with proven track records for focused execution and broad customer traction."
