Elpida and NEC to form a new company to exclusively manufacture Display Driver ICs

NEC Electronics, an all-round expert in complete range of semiconductor ICs is in agreement with leading DRAM vendor Elpida to launch a new joint-venture comany to manufacture Display Driver ICs.
NEC is already a leading maker of Display Driver ICs and said has a market share of 12 to 13% of worldwide display driver IC market. With the high growth in demand for LCD display used in mobile phones and PC display monitors, the market demand for Display Driver ICs is expected to grow fast.
Elpida with its huge capacity to produce volumes at lower cost will provide its facility and DRAM expertise in mass manufacturing Display Driver ICs at low cost. NEC will hold a stake of 80% and the remaining 20% by Elpida in this new company.

The joint objective is to apply Elpida’s DRAM process technology for NEC’s Display Driver IC technology.

In its press release NEC has not mentioned any name of this new company,
