India semiconductor investment: 2nd quarter 07.
Companies: Videocon and Alereon

Videocon is in talks with Government of West Bengal to invest in a production and design facility for making Semiconductor ICs. Videocon is popular consumer electronics brand in India. Videocon is entering into this market due to semiconductor industry's growth and availability of cheap talent and work force in this sector. Videocon is sourcing huge quantity of semiconductor ICs from outside India for it's various consumer electronic products. So it has internal customer for much of the production to start with.

Alereon Inc, an US based fabless semiconductor company has started a new R&D facility at Pune in Maharastra This facility is to develop Ultra Wideband (UWB) chipsets such as AL4000 for the future products.

Indian operation will be headed by Mr. Rajesh Zele, Managing Director.
