Indian Institute of Science is the leadership-university
partner of Texas Instruments
Texas Instruments (TI) has enhanced already
existing relationship with Indian Institute of Science (IISc)
by joining it into a group of four leadership universities.
IISc is the only university outside US to get this special
role and recognition of leadership university. The other three
universities of this group are Georgia Tech, Rice University,
and MIT.
As part of this program TI will fund $400,000 as seed capital
over a period of five years. This money will go towards supporting
research programs for industry specific applications, as well
as curriculum development in DSP, analog and mixed signal
systems. Rich Templeton, TI's CEO has said to IISc students,
"The higher education in engineering and science you
get here provides you with critical skills and also enables
you to transform the lives of millions through invention and
discovery. Our goal in joining with IISc through the Leadership
University program is to enable engineers to use electronics
innovation to enrich lives."
Every leading semiconductor company wants
to tap the top brains of India through these kind of recognitions
and funding. But when it comes to investing in a fab or any
other component manufacturing facility in India, they step
back and jump to our big neighbor. When will we see a processor
or a microcontroller of cutting edge technology to be made
in India?
