CTS to supply electronic throttle Control accelerator to a German car maker

The wire-control of automotives is the order of the day in modern automotives. One such control, which is fast undergoing a change from mechanical to electronic, is throttle control. The electronic throttle control pedal consists of highly sophisticated switch with variable resistor, so it is a precision electromechanical passive component. This product and many such wire-control devices give an opportunity for resistor potentiometer companies to lead in offering control devices for automotives.

CTS is going forward in this business by winning a contract from German car manufacturer to supply its Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Accelerator Pedal Modules. The pedals will be used on a new economical family car to be sold in Europe.

First deliveries of these pedals will start in early 2011. Total sales from this award are expected to reach approximately $9 million over the eight-year life of the program.
CTS sees this win more as strategic with long term benefit, where many other automotive companies might turn to CTS for procuring electronic throttle control accelerator pedal modules.

For electric and hybrid automotives the electronic pedal is the only way. Designing proper throttle is key part of fuel saving exercise in latest automotives. This is clearly a budding opportunity for precision passive component suppliers.
