Visible symptoms of stabilizing
consumer semiconductor IC market
The hard-hit consumer semiconductor is looks to be stabilizing
with not much further fall in revenues. Taiwanese consumer
semiconductor chip manufacturers Sunplus and Sonix Technology
both have reported growth in revenues in the month of February
09.
Sunplus Technology posted net sales of NT$259 million (approx.
US$ 7.4 million) for February 2009, a 22.2% growth in comparison
to January 2009 sales of NT$212 million (approx. US$ 6.07
million). Sunplus supplies Digital TV, DVD, Set-Top-Box
(STB), Digital Photo Frame (DPF) ICs for consumer electronics
market
Sonix Technology announced net sales of NT$ 199 million
(approx. US$5.7 million) for February 2009, representing
an increase of 59.8 % compared with January 2009 net sales
of NT$125 million (approx. US$3.6 million). Sonix makes
microcontrollers, voice controllers, video image ICs and
USB controllers for consumer electronics market.
Both these companies supply audio and multimedia semiconductor
devices mainly to OEMs in Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong
Kong.
This is at least something to cheer up the semiconductor
market, that too for consumer electronics market.
The Q1 2009 financial results will indicate better the
status of the industry. Just another one month to go to
feel the semiconductor industry pulse better.
