India based Tata Elxsi launches a new RTOS for Embedded Systems

Bangalore based Tata Elxsi has launched a new embedded operating system named RoS-ES (Real-Time Operating System for Embedded System). Touted as low footprint OS, this RTOS is tailored for ARM and Xtensa/Tensilica platforms. The applications suggested are network/telecom equipment, automotive, consumer electronic devices market.

Telecom device vendor, TranSwitch has already licensed RoS-ES OS for its Atlanta 2000 family of communications processor ICs, which are optimized for Gigabit-rate packet processing applications. The telecom equipment applications of TranSwitch to embed this OS are secure broadband gateway equipments, SSL/TLS and IPSec acceleration, and micro-PBX.

"TranSwitch selected RoS-ES as the OS for A2000's fast path processor for broadband gateway router applications due to its high performance, small footprint, powerful options, and configurability. The proficiency of Tata Elxsi's technical team and their familiarity with Tensilica processors was an important consideration in making our choice." said Bill McDonald, director of CPE product marketing at TranSwitch Corporation.

By moving into this kind of software product area, Tata Elxsi shows the way for other Indian embedded software companies to focus on product along with services.
