Vanguard International Semiconductor
reports 2008 revenue of NT$16,120 Million
Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation today
announced its fourth quarter financial results. Fourth quarter
revenue was NT$2,677 million, generating after tax net loss
around NT$526 million, and net loss per share of NT$0.30.
Accumulated revenue for the year of 2008 totaled NT$16,120
million, with after tax net income of NT$1,042 million,
and EPS of NT$0.6.
Compared with the previous quarter, fourth quarter revenue
decreased around 38% to NT$2,677 million, from NT$4,342
million in the third quarter. On a year-over-year comparison,
revenue for the fourth quarter decreased around 39%. Wafer
shipment for the fourth quarter reached 162,000 wafers,
representing a 42% decrease from 276,000 wafers in the third
quarter and representing a 36% decrease from 254,000 wafers
for the same period in 2007. Gross margin dropped from 16%
to -10% compared with previous quarter.
For the first quarter of 2009, VIS spokesperson Mr. Robert
Hsieh said, "Due to continuing weakness in global economic,
and customers will keep adopting cautious attitude in demand.
We expect wafer shipment to decrease by low-to-mid fifties
percentage. Fab utilization rate is in the range of 20 to
30%. Gross profit margin to be negative mid-to-high sixties
percentage. The blended ASP will decrease by a low single
digit percentage."
