Spansion has planned to sell its business or get merged with other memory manufacturer

Semiconductor memory maker Spansion, which was formed after merging AMD and Fujitsu's memory business, has strategically opted to sell or merge its business. The memory industry is badly hit by the present recession, and Spansion being 100% memory manufacturer has to bear the brunt.

Spansion said in its press release, strategic alternatives would be designed to build on Spansion's position as a leading supplier of NOR flash memory by creating significantly greater scale and to provide Spansion's customers with a broader range of more cost effective memory solutions.

Barclays Capital is assisting Spansion in finding the right buyer.
