ST and Ibiquity joins hands to see traditional radio is not just an AM/FM audio receiver.

Ibiquity digital corp is the developer of HD Radio; technology which allow AM/FM stations to broadcast digital data along with audio. The digital data can be readable news to weather update to any such small sized rolling text announcements. The audio will be of CD-quality. It's already there in air in US. Most of other countries are testing this to implement. India will be a sizable market for this service.
ST Microelectronics makes semiconductor ICs for HD Radio receivers. Being a semiconductor leader, ST teams up with Ibiquity to develop System On Chip technologies for this market. ST has licensed the necessary IP from Ibiquity to produce SOCs sometime in end of 2007 or early 08.
