Freescale takes leading position by shipping more than 300 million MEMS based acceleration sensors.

Freescale's shipment counter of MEMS based acceleration sensors have crossed 300 million in number. It can be estimated, Freescale might be ranked No. 1 or heading for a No. 1 position in this market, which is growing more than 20% a year. Last year Analog Devices have announced shipment of 200million acceleration sensors, keeping the race very close.

Freescale sensors are used not only in automotive airbags but also to sense free-fall of laptops and other portable gadgets.

Freescale's sensor products cover acceleration detection range of 1.5 g to 250 g. with g-select feature. Just an additional cost of 1$ to 2$ may save few thousand dollar worth laptops and equipments from damage.

MEMS based sensor market will witness high demand in future, we have wait and watch who other player will come and compete on the cost factor.
