To cater to the market needs of high-speed wide-band communication required for smart cities, smart factories, and autonomous vehicles, fifth-generation ( 5G) is emerging as best solution. Targeting this opportunity, Mitsubishi Electric developed a compact massive-element antenna and RF module that achieves a wide 800MHz bandwidth and wide-angle beamforming for 28GHz communications in 5G radio base stations. Mitsubishi presenting the details at the Brooklyn 5G Summit to be held in New York City from April 19 to 21.
This RF communication product features wide-angle beamforming. The Beam control technology is combined with a proprietary massive 256-element antenna and RF device.
The Wide-angle beam forming at ±45 degrees horizontally expands area coverage.
The product also design as a compact system by using highly efficient RF devices for easy installation.
Key technologies of 5G: Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO), which use high frequency bands to secure wide bandwidth, and MIMO, which spatially multiplexes multiple signals at the same time in the same frequency while compensating for large propagation loss in higher frequencies through the use of multi-element antennas.
