Small size relays for solar PV power-conditioner application

Panasonic has introduced small size power relays called "HE-S Relay" which can operate at very low power levels. HE-S Relays are suggested for use in safety of power systems where abnormal currents can be cut off in solar PV power generation or power storage system, industrial equipment such as elevators, and stationary electric vehicle chargers. HE-S Relay are available in June 2015.

"Downsizing, weight reduction, and energy savings are demanded of power conditioners for photovoltaic power generation, storage battery and various industrial equipment systems. The power relays are used for cutting off inverter current safely in case of a failure in these equipment systems and there are growing needs for downsizing and reduced operating power. Panasonic has developed the industry's smallest* HE-S Relays that employ the mirror contact structure, thus achieving one of the industry's lowest operating power levels*. HE-S Relays will contribute to the downsizing and energy savings of equipment and systems that require high-capacity control, such as power conditioners for photovoltaic power generation or power storage system, elevators, uninterruptible power supply systems(UPSs), and various types of industrial equipment." explains Panasonic.

Features of HE-S Relays:
1. small package of dimensions: 30 (L) x 36 (W) x 40 (H) mm.
2. The coil hold voltage is reduced to approximately 30% of the rating voltage.
Operating power: 1.88 W (at an ambient temperature of 20?)
Holding power: 170 mW (at an ambient temperature of 20?)
3. The adoption of the mirror contact structure (conforming to EN 60947-4-1) facilitates the design of safety circuits.

Applications:
Safe cut-off applications of AC mains electricity in power conditioners for photovoltaic power generation or power storage system. Safe cut-off and power control applications in industrial equipment such as elevators and UPSs (uninterruptible power supply systems), as well as stationary EV chargers
