ZigBee and Thread supporting chip for STB, gateways and IoT

GreenPeak Technologies launched GP712, a single radio multi-protocol chipset with multi-channel receive capability of both ZigBee and Thread data for set-top boxes, gateways, and other advanced IoT devices.

Since ZigBee and Thread is gaining popularity in IoT communication space, GP712 kind of a chip is suitable for applications requiring multi-channel receive support so that this chip simultaneously listen to both ZigBee and Thread packets using a single radio. GreenPeak said it has improved its frequency agility mechanism to provide enhanced co-existence of the various applications with other 2.4GHz wireless communication systems. The GP712 comes in a small footprint 24-pins QFN package, making it well-suited for low-cost PCB design rules in price sensitive applications.

With multiple protocols becoming norm in the short range wireless communications in applications such as Smart Home, electronics engineers are asked to design systems supporting multi-protocol environments. Chips such as GP712 serves such needy applications.
