Kit for connecting embedded device to the cloud

Date: 22/10/2013
Microchip has made available a Wi-Fi based Cloud Development Platform on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace to help embedded systems engineers to develop devices with cloud connecting capability. Microchip’s platform allows designers to create a working demo that connects an embedded application with the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service, a cloud based web service. The Wi-Fi Client Module Development Kit, which is part of the platform bridges the embedded systems to the cloud. This basically helps in designing Internet of Things application (IoT) with capability to connect to the cloud.

Microchip says it's new Cloud Development Platform builds designer confidence by making it quick and easy for them to get up and running on the proven Amazon EC2 cloud infrastructure.

“I view this as a huge step forward for corporations who produce embedded products, to quickly develop infrastructure and connect their devices to the cloud,” said Mike Ballard, senior manager of Microchip’s Home Appliance Solutions Group and leader of its Cloud Enablement Team. “With the vast amount of expertise and scalability provided by AWS, developers can easily customize their connectivity instances and the user’s experience.”

“With Microchip’s Wi-Fi Client Module Development Kit available via our AWS Marketplace, customers can easily learn to connect embedded products to AWS,” said Sajai Krishnan, GM, AWS Marketplace. “This is an effective step to help bridge the embedded world and the cloud.”

Microchip’s Cloud Development Platform is available now.
