0.5 A, 1uH 1005 SMT inductor and a tiny pulse transformer from TDK

Date: 09/07/2013
TDK Corporation has release a new surface mount inductor measuring 1.0 mm x 0.5 mm x 0.7 mm in size. This MLP1005M1R0D SMT inductor comes in a inductance rating of 1 micro Henries and can handle a current upto 500 milli Amperes.

This 1005 size multilayer inductor is designed for use in the power supply circuits of smartphones, tablet PCs, digital cameras, and other mobile devices. Mass production of this component to begin in July 2013.

MLP1005M1R0D uses low-loss ferrite magnetic material to help in supporting high current rating of 500 mA in this 1005 size inductor.

One more such very small magnetic device from TDK is SMD pulse transformers measuring 3.2 x 3.2 x 2.8 mm3 for LAN applications. The new ALT3232M offers inductance of 150 µH with insertion loss is in the frequency range from 100 kHz to 100 MHz at 2.5 dB, and its parasitic winding capacitance is only 25 pF at 100 kHz. The volume production of this device is expected to start in July 2013.

TDK says the number of pulse transformers used in LAN applications is increasing in response to the raised transmission speed of Ethernet networks, namely from 100 to 1000 Mbps. In addition, several transformers are usually placed on a circuit board, so that minimized component dimensions are of crucial importance.

The automated winding process used by TDK for mass producing these transformers reduces characteristics variations that tend to occur with manual winding.

TDK Corporation has launched a new website for inductors. The new website, which is available in English, Japanese and Chinese, offers user-friendly tools to quickly and easily find the inductive components that meet specific requirements.

The concept of the new inductors website is similar to that of TDK’s MLCC website that was launched in January 2013. As the world’s leading manufacturer of inductors, The new website can be found under http://product.tdk.com/inductor/ind/en.
