100-V LDO and 60-V DC/DC controller from TI designed to withstand high-voltage

Texas Instruments Incorporated has added two new step-down regulators with wide input voltages and high-voltage protection to its power IC portfolio. The new 100-V LDO and 60-V DC/DC controller designed to withstand high-voltage transients and deliver high efficiency targeting low- to mid-current, high-voltage telecom and industrial designs, such as motor control, HVAC relay, smart meters and automotive after-market applications.

TI says the TPS7A4001 50-mA LDO has the industry's widest input voltage tolerance with an input voltage 7 V to 100 V, and achieves an extremely fast settling time of less than 500 nanoseconds for a 50-V transient event. The device in 8-pin, thermally enhanced 3-mm x 5-mm MSOP package, has a low quiescent current of 25 uA.

The TPS40170 synchronous step-down DC/DC controller offers voltage-mode control with input voltage feed-forward compensation, while supporting input voltages from 4.5 V to 60 V and output currents up to 12 A. The controller protects against voltage spikes up to 62 V, offers a fast FET on-time of 75 ns and shutdown current of 1.0 uA. The TPS40170's unique bi-directional synchronization feature eliminates system beat and EMI noise and reduces input capacitance by up to 50 percent, saving board space. The device comes in a 3.5-mm x 4.5-mm QFN.

In addition to the TPS40170 controller, TI provides a range of SWIFT monolithic switchers with integrated FETs to simplify design in lower current 60-V applications. The 2.5-A TPS54260, 1.5-A TPS54160 and 500-mA TPS54060 converters provide up to 95 percent efficiency to 12-, 24- and 48-V industrial and commercial designs and GSM/GPRS modules used in smart meters, fleet management and security systems. All three SWIFT converters are pin-compatible for design flexibility.

Availability and pricing:
The TPS7A4001 is available in volume now from TI in an 8-pin, 3-mm x 5-mm MSOP PowerPad package. Suggested resale pricing is $1.90 in 1,000-unit quantities. The TPS40170 controller comes in a 3.5-mm x 4.5-mm QFN with a suggested resale price of $2.40 in 1,000-unit quantities.
