VSN Systemen selects Octasic's Vocallo MGW to power the MPU of its OpenTSP portfolio

Octasic's Vocallo MGW multi-core DSP platform has been chosen by VSN Systemen to power the media processing unit (MPU) of its OpenTSP NG portfolio.

VSN's OpenTSP NG portfolio was designed to address the needs of technical application developers facing the many challenges associated with the increasing complexity of IP networks. Intended for use in carrier-grade telecom and datacom network markets, OpenTSP NG products can handle traffic, and are scalable to large systems that can deal with tens of thousands of concurrent calls.

Octasic's Vocallo MGW is based on Octasic's unique Opus DSP architecture. This device offers a complete hardware and software solution for media gateways in enterprise and converged fixed-mobile carrier networks. The Vocallo software package includes support for wideband audio codecs such as AMR-WB (G.722.2), G.722, G.722.1, and G.729.1. This flexible solution also provides video transcoding and conferencing solutions across codecs such as H.263, MPEG-4, and H.264. Video resolutions supported include QCIF, CIF, SD and HD.

The OpenTSP NG Vocallo MPU is available as a board-level product or as a boxed media applications platform and delivers the lowest power per channel to allow for increased system density and decreased system cost.

"We understand the importance of being first to market and are committed to developing high-density, low-power platforms that enable our customers to get to market faster and reduce their overall system costs," said Johan Kleuskens, Head of Embedded Systems at VSN. "Octasic's solutions support this commitment and provide an integral part in giving developers the building blocks they need for developing the latest multimedia applications, including advanced video applications, and the flexibility required to keep pace in this fast-changing IP world."

"We're extremely pleased to have our Vocallo MGW solution incorporated into VSN's technical building blocks portfolio," said Fabio Gambacorta, VP sales at Octasic. "With video services in high demand, it will become increasingly important for developers to have a solution that can process today's real-time communications, while providing an easy migration for adding new video features as needed. They'll find that the OpenTSP NG Vocallo MPU delivers on both fronts."
