Smart, micro-machined
Infrared Thermometer for medical needs
Melexis launched the MLX90615, the world's first integrated
intelligent infrared thermometer. This non-contact thermometer
delivers a fully calibrated digital temperature reading
achieved by integrating an infrared sensor with a custom
signal-conditioning chip.
The sensing element is a silicon chip with a thin, micro-machined
membrane, heated by the infrared radiation of the object.
A signal-conditioning chip amplifies and digitizes the minute
voltages generated by the thermocouples on the sensor membrane
and calculates the object temperature, using factory set
calibration parameters stored in the memory of the chip.
The key features are,
1. The digitized temperature is fully linearized and compensates
for ambient temperature.
2. The MLX90615 applies advanced low noise amplifiers, a
16-bit ADC, with a powerful DSP unit in its signal-conditioning
chip.
3. A wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C
4. An extended object temperature range of -40°C to
+115°C
5. A temperature resolution of 0.02°C
6. Absolute accuracy of ±0.1°C in the critical
temperature range of 36°C to 39°C.
7. Uses a 3 Volt supply voltage and consume less then 1
mA in normal operation.
8. Has a "sleep" mode during which the current
consumption can be as low as 2µA.
