Fujitsu launched 40-GB hard-disk-drive for automotive applications

Fujitsu has released to market 40-GB hard disk drive for harsh and vibration prone automotive applications. The MHW2040AC with parallel ATA interface (PATA) has high withstand ability for outdoor weather condition.
Some of the key specs of this drive are,
Rotational speed: 4200 RPM
Buffer size: 8MB
Track to track seek time: 1.5 milli seconds
Idle power consumption: 0.7W
Ambient Temperature: -30 Deg C to 85 Deg C (also -20 Deg C to 80 Deg C version available)
Relative Humidity: 8% to 90% RH

With flash memory entering disk drive arena, design engineer has to apply much more thoughts in selecting magnetic over solid state. The cost is still an advantage with magnetic storage but over the time will loose on this parameter too.
