Low power single channel 1MBd digital optocoupler for signal isolation interfaces

Avago has announced that its low power ACPL-M50L single channel 1MBd digital optocoupler operates on approximately 80 percent less drive current than standard 1MBd digital optocouplers. The ACPL-M50L digital optocoupler targeting communication interfaces, microcontroller system interfaces, switching power supplies, and digital isolation for A/D, D/A conversion applications.

Avago's ACPL-M50L high speed digital optocoupler supports a supply voltage range from 2.7V to 24V and is driven by low forward drive current (IF > 3mA) with a high current transfer ratio (CTR > 80 percent min.) to allow direct drive from a microcontroller without the need to add a buffer chip.

The key features of the ACPL-M50L digital optocoupler are,

3mA of low drive current
Open collector output
TTL compatible
15 kV/µS high common-mode rejection at Vcm = 1500 V
1 ms (max) of low propagation delay
Worldwide safety approvals pending: IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-5/UL 1577/CSA

Separate connections for the photodiode bias and output transistor collector of the ACPL-M50L increases its speed up to a hundred times over that of a conventional photo-transistor by reducing the base-collector capacitance.

Operating temperature range: -40 to +105 degrees-C

Price: Starts at $0.75 for 2.5k pieces
