Mini USB interface analog IC enables
a single connection for mobile external accessories
Freescale Semiconductor has introduced the MC34825, a
new mini USB interface analog IC that enables a single mini
USB connector for mobile device external accessories including
chargers, headsets, microphones and audio/data connections.
The MC34825 analog IC supports all-passive audio accessories
such as stereo audio, microphone and cord remote control
functionality.
"The MC34825 leverages Freescale's 15 years of experience
in delivering portable power management solutions that help
our customers differentiate in competitive consumer electronics
markets," said Scott Ward, vice president and general
manager of Freescale's Analog, Mixed-Signal & Power
Division. "This IC helps consumer device manufacturers
give consumers what they want small form factors and a single
connection that eliminates the need for multiple adapters
and cords."
The key features of the MC34825 analog IC are,
Uses intelligent switching to identify up to 32 different
accessory types, such as headsets, microphones and chargers
As a universal charging solution, it supports multiple charger
types including AC, DC and USB
Internal power switch to offer OVP against up to 28 V failed
power supply input
Supports stereo/mono headset with or without microphone
and remote controller with pure passive components
Supports USB or UART R/D test cables
High speed (480 Mbps) USB 2.0 compliant
Supports 32 ID resistance values with a high accuracy 5-bit
ADC
Accessory attachment and detachment detection with an interrupt
signal to the host IC
I2C interface
10 µA quiescent current in Standby mode
The suggested applications for the MC34825 analog IC include
smartbooks, netbooks, eBooks, mobile phones, smartphones,
portable media players, portable navigation devices, digital
still cameras and camcorders.
