FlexRay V2.1 certified transceiver IC from Austriamicrosystems

Austriamicrosystems has announced the new AS8221 FlexRay transceiver, which is certified to the FlexRay Standard V2.1 Rev B. This transceiver acts as an interface between digital logic and copper cable transmission for automotive networks.

The key features of the AS8221 transceiver are,

Data transfer up to 10 Mbps
Better EMC performances
Interface for bus guardian or supervision circuits
Automatic thermal shutdown protection
Supports 12V and 24V systems with low sleep current
Integrated power management system with two inhibit pins for external voltage supply control, local wake-up input and remote wake-up capability via FlexRay bus in low power modes
Supports 2.5, 3, 3.3, 5 V microcontrollers and automatically adapts to interface levels
Protection against damage due to short circuit conditions on the bus (positive and negative battery voltage)

AMS rates the AS8221 transceiver high for its system stability and short asymmetric delay characteristics.

The AS8221 transceiver provides all of the functions to enable its integration in Electronic Control Units powered with permanent battery voltage.

"The AS8221 FlexRay Standard Transceiver is the first IC in austriamicrosystems' FlexRay transceiver family, manufactured in serial production, that helps increase the stability and interoperability of FlexRay network communication", says Bernhard Czar, Marketing Director Automotive at austriamicrosystems. "We design and develop our devices not only to meet the FlexRay standard, but to focus specifically on the implementation of innovations that exceed the standard."

Operating temperature range: -40°C to 125°C

Package: SSOP20 package
