New Video Over IP add-on kit from
Microtronix for FPGA development boards
Microtronix has released a new Video Over IP add-on kit
for Altera's Cyclone III and Stratix III FPGA development
boards. The kit provides the hardware, software, and IP
required to implement a bi-directional bridge between DVB-ASI
interfaces and RTP-UDP/IP over Ethernet.
The IP core accepts a video transport stream and encapsulates
it for transmission over an Ethernet network using user
datagram protocol (UDP)/IP network encapsulation, with real-time
transport protocol (RTP) encapsulation. Pro-MPEG Code of
Practice #3 (CoP3) forward error correction (FEC) is available
as an option. The core supports full-duplex 100 Mbps and
1 Gbps Ethernet connections and can process up to 256 individual
video streams. By using hardware encapsulation, the core
can achieve line-rate gigabit Ethernet performance with
minimal transmission latency.
The kit bundles Gigabit Ethernet PHY / HDMI 1.3 Transmitter
HSMC Daughtercard, National Semiconductor SDALTEVK SD/HD/3G
SDI Adapter Daughtercard and Quartus Reference Designs to
provide a complete video over IP development solution. The
Quartus Video Over IP reference design implements a system
that bridges between MPEG transport stream (TS) video data
and Ethernet based Internet protocol (IP) networks.
"By supporting existing as well as new Cyclone III
and Stratix III FPGA development platforms, the Video Over
IP Add-on Kit enables designers to maximize their investment
and knowledge in Altera Quartus tools and their existing
FPGA development platforms." said Norman McCall, president
of Microtronix. "Using the supplied reference designs
with the supporting Microtronix and Altera's IP cores, customers
can significantly reduce their design risk and time to market."
The suggested applications for Video Over IP add-on kit
include SDI video cameras, bridging of DBV-ASI sources using
video-over-IP, remote monitoring of a DBV-ASI TS using video-over-IP,
digital video recorder's, video switches and video editing
systems.
Microtronix says the reference designs can easily be tailored
to specific application or onto other FPGA development platforms
containing a HSMC header.
