700mA step-down converter with dual 300mA LDO from Maxim in chip-scale package

Maxim has introduced the MAX8884Y/MAX8884Z, a 700mA PWM step-down converter IC with dual 300mA LDOs that are suitable to power multiload applications in portable devices such as cell phones, smartphones, MP3 and DVD players, and digital cameras/camcorders.

The key features of step-down converter are,

1.2V/1.8V of pin-selectable output voltage
2/4MHz of switching frequency
Low-output voltage ripple
700mA of output drive capability with low output-voltage ripple ranging from 15mVP-P to 20mVP-P
Simple logic ON/OFF control

The key features of low-noise LDOs are,

Pin-selectable output voltage (LDO1)
Low 26µVRMS (typ) of output noise
High 65dB (typ) PSRR
Simple logic ON/OFF control
Low 0.1µA of shutdown current
Operating input voltage ranges from 2.7V to 5.5V
Thermal shutdown

These buck converter ICs integrate a synchronous rectifier to eliminate the need for an external Schottky diode, while its high-frequency switching allows the use of tiny external components to minimize solution size and feature thermal-overload and overcurrent protection.

Operating temperature range: -40°C to +85°C

Package: lead-free, 2mm x 2mm x 0.7mm, 16-bump chip-scale package (CSP)
Price: Starts at $1.45 for 2.5k pieces
