New embedded systems toolset from IAR supports ARM Cortex-R4
processor
IAR has launched the Embedded Workbench, a set of embedded
system development tools that support ARM Cortex-R4 processor
in version 5.40 and suitable for embedded applications.
IAR's Embedded Workbench package includes an editor, project
management tools, a C and C++ compiler that generates high-optimized
code for the combined ARM/Thumb-2 instruction set, a C-SPY
simulator and run-time libraries, relocating assembler,
linker and librarian tools. The compiler can check the rules
of MISRA C (MISRA C: 2004) software development standard
as established by the Motor Industry Software Reliability
Association.
An evaluation edition of IAR PowerPac RTOS, file system,
USB stack and a TCP/IP stack bundle is in included within
the package. RTOS plugins are available from IAR Systems
and other leading RTOS vendors.
"When the Cortex-R4 processor was launched initial
licensees used it primarily for complex system-on-chip applications.
We have now seen a clear trend where the Cortex-R4 processor
is being incorporated in general purpose high-end microcontrollers
intended for a wider audience. We welcome the support of
IAR Systems and the launch of the new IAR Embedded Workbench
with Cortex-R4 processor support as broad industry tools
support is critical for the success of the processor and
our partners," says Haydn Povey, Director of Product
Marketing for ARM's Processor Division.
"IAR Systems has a strong position in automotive,
safety-critical systems and industrial automation that fits
well with the profile of the ARM Cortex-R4 processor and
the markets it is targeting" says Mats Ullström,
Product Director of IAR Systems. "The release of IAR
Embedded Workbench for ARMv7R architecture-based Cortex-R4
processor is a proof of the commitment of IAR Systems to
provide full support for the ARM processor architectures".
